Creating Academic Success

Psycho-Educational Evaluations

Before specific steps should be taken to help an individual who is struggling in school, it is important to understand how he or she learns. A thorough diagnostic process allows us to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.

The testing process begins with a telephone conversation to better understand individual needs. A detailed questionnaire, in advance of the first appointment is then mailed to you. Typically, testing includes an intake session, two to three testing sessions, as well as a thorough follow-up meeting.

Evaluations Include:

  •       In-depth consultation session to obtain insight into each individual’s medical history, social-emotional development, talents and challenges.

  •       One-on-one personal administration of a wide variety of measures to assess the individual’s academic skill levels.

  •      Thorough follow-up consultation to explain all measures of assessment that evaluate test results, customized comprehensive plan to enable academic success.  Included are recommendations for academic and social-emotional skill bolstering, including suggestions for therapeutic, tutorial, speech/language, organizational, and visual-motor strategies, when indicated.

Evaluations target diagnoses of the following

  • Dyslexia and other reading challenges

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Anxiety Disorders

  • Mood Disorders

  • Executive Dysfunction / Organizational Challenges

  • Behavioral Disorders

  • Language Processing Disorders

Many individuals have more than one area of need. For some, behavioral, social, attentional, language, or visual-motor issues may be interfering with learning. Dr. Hessler and Ms. Schapiro work closely with a comprehensive team of highly skilled professionals, including psychiatrists, behavioral health specialists, speech/language pathologists, and occupational therapists to develop a deeper understanding of your child’s learning challenges and strengths.
