Susan Schapiro, M.S.
|
Susan Schapiro Nevins, M.S., has had more than 25 years of experience
working with children and their families in the private and public
school setting. She holds a Master of Science degree in reading from
Johns Hopkins University, and has completed additional coursework
in: Orton-Gillingham, the Howard County Gifted & Talented Enrichment
Triad Model, and Nanci Bell’s Visualizing & Verbalizing Program.
Susan has provided educational testing and consulting for more than
1000 students over the last ten years. While she specializes in
children with learning challenges, such as dyslexia, she works with
gifted and talented students, as well. She has past involvement with
school-wide testing and consulting for a local private school in
Maryland serving dyslexic children. In addition, she has monitored
the progress of hundreds of children working with academic
therapists and speech/language pathologists at a local educational
consulting and tutoring firm in the Baltimore area. Susan has worked
as a Gifted & Talented Specialist, an Infant and Toddler Course
Creator & Facilitator, an Advocate, and a Classroom Educator.
Susan works closely with
Dr. Shreya Hessler, Psy.D., as well as a comprehensive team of
highly skilled professionals to develop a deeper understanding of a
child’s learning profile. Dr. Hessler and Susan Schapiro combine
their specialized talents to provide comprehensive psycho-educational
evaluations. Susan sits on the advisory board of the Dyslexic Dreams
Foundation, and is the Alumni Council Representative for the Johns
Hopkins University School of Education. In addition, she writes an
educational column for Baltimore’s Child Magazine. In
recognition of her work with children, Susan Schapiro was the
recipient of the 2008 Spirited Woman Award. Susan is a
member of the International Dyslexia Association, and past president
of the Kids & Company chapter of the Child Study Association of
Maryland. Schapiro has had involvement with the Make-A-Wish
Foundation of Maryland, and True Sisters Guild. As a parent of
three, Susan is able to guide families through the educational
testing process with sensitivity and compassion. |

Shreya P. Hessler,
Psy.D. |
Shreya P. Hessler, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist in
Maryland. She conducts psychological assessments and provides
psychotherapy to children, adolescents, young adults and families.
In addition, she advocates for children with developmental
disabilities in the community and in school settings. Dr. Hessler
runs group therapy sessions for children with various behavioral,
academic, and behavioral challenges so that peers can receive
feedback and support from each other. In collaboration with
Susan Schapiro, Dr. Hessler conducts assessments to diagnose and
treat AD/HD, Executive Dysfunction, Mood Disorders, and Learning
Disabilities. Dr. Hessler holds a doctorate
degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola College. She completed her
pre-doctoral and post doctoral fellowship training in pediatric
psychology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and Kennedy Krieger
Institute. Prior to her clinical work, she received extensive
training in child development and earned a Master of Arts degree in
Human Development at the University of Maryland. In addition to her
involvement directly with clients, Dr. Hessler supervises graduate
students at the Loyola Clinical Centers and has taught in the
psychology department at Towson University. Dr. Hessler is committed
to working with children and their families through both the
assessment and therapeutic processes so they can thrive and live up
to their unique and ultimate potential.
